FOUR TIPS TO SWIM FASTER

By Carson Jones

Dr. Gary Hall, Sr. asks swimmers at The Race Club to swim the length of the pool with their head down underwater in a streamlined position looking directly at the black line on the bottom of the pool. He goes on to explain that this will make them faster and it will be easier! But How?

WHAT DOES THE SWIM LESSON DEMONSTRATE?

After the exercise, Dr. Hall, Sr. asked all of his swimmers their experience with similar lessons in the past. Most of them said they have collided with other swimmers in busy lanes in practice or warm-ups. For most of them, it hurt their heads and for some it even caused an injury. Coaches place drills or lesson activities to increase speed, while paying less attention to their swimmers safety. There must be a balance between athletic improvement and safety.

HOW TO SWIM FASTER WHILE AVOIDING INJURIES?

To swim faster and avoid head injuries, here are four easy tips Dr. Hall, Sr. recommends once your head is in the correct position. Firstly, be the lane leader or keep at least 10 seconds between yourself and the swimmer in front of you. This will create enough time and space between swimmers to reduce the likelihood of collision. Secondly, like driving on the road, stay on the right side of the lane, not in the middle. By doing this, you will create enough space between you and someone who you might swim by. Thirdly, wear the Hammer Head Swim Cap with their patented honeycomb cushion technology. These revolutionary swim caps protect all swimmers from head injuries in the pool. Lastly, pray a lot that you don’t collide with another swimmer and get injured. Though these tips lower the risk of injury, you should always be aware of the possibility.

DOES THE RACE CLUB LIKE HAMMER HEAD SWIM CAPS?

The Race Club likes Hammer Head swim caps. Though there are many reasons why, we are going to narrow it down to two. To begin, The Race Club loves the cushion on the inside of the cap. Through its honeycomb technology, it protects swimmers from any collision underwater and makes swimmers more confident to keep their heads in the correct streamline position. When swimmers are comfortable and confident in their swim gear, they are able to focus on improving their skills in the pool. Another reason why The Race Club likes the Hammer Head swimming cap so much is because it reduces frontal drag by up to 10.5%. This is faster than any other swim cap. For this reason, Dr. Hall recommends wearing Hammer Head swim caps in practice, as well as competitions.
